Blackson Afonso (born 1983 in Uíge, Angola) is an Angolan contemporary artist based in Lisbon. He has lived in Portugal since childhood.
He studied painting in Budapest (2009–2012), then architecture in Lisbon.
His work explores above all the representation of the Black body and of the human figure, through layered, colourful compositions poised between abstraction and figuration.
His pieces play on contrasting emotions — joy, melancholy — and on a search for visual harmony, in an artistic language that is constantly evolving.
He exhibits regularly across Europe and also develops work on a range of supports, from painting to installations and tiles.
