A product of the early 1990s graffiti scene, he discovered New York tagging culture at a young age before developing a highly singular visual language at the crossroads of text, painting, poetry and urban expression.
Armed with spray cans, he first worked directly in public space, from Paris to New York, before multiplying performances and interventions in cities such as Lyon, Marseille, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Jakarta.
Over time, his practice extended beyond the street to canvas, metal and various supports, taking in influences ranging from action painting to African art and the aesthetics of Maori tattooing.
At the heart of his work is writing: dense networks of often illegible text, composing portraits and self-portraits, and creating a tension between visibility and disappearance, abstraction and identity.
Through this play of calligraphy, symbols and coded language, SUN7 builds a rhythmic, mysterious world rich in layers of meaning.
