AIKO (also known as LADY AIKO) has been a recognised artist on the international graffiti, street art and contemporary art scene for over twenty years.
Born and raised in Tokyo, she moved to New York in the mid-1990s. After working in Takashi Murakami’s Brooklyn studio and being a founding member of the street art collective FAILE, she began a solo career in 2006.
Known for her iconic “BUNNY” stencil, originally created in Banksy’s London studio in 2005, AIKO has travelled the world with this motif, carrying a message centred on love, peace, sexuality and freedom.
In 2012, she became the first female artist to work on Keith Haring’s famous historic mural in New York.
Through her meticulous hand-cut stencil technique, AIKO combines Western artistic influences with Japanese technical craft, producing works that are both visually striking and narrative.
She has collaborated with luxury brands including Louis Vuitton, FENDI and Estée Lauder, and has also received commissions from the World Trade Center and former First Lady Michelle Obama.
Her work has been presented in numerous international institutions, among them the Brooklyn Museum, MOCA Shanghai, the Saatchi Gallery in London and the United Nations.
