Jace is a French artist born in 1973 in Le Havre and based for many years on Réunion Island.
A central figure of French-language street art, he is best known for creating the “Gouzous”, small faceless yellow characters that first appeared in the early 1990s. Through scenes full of humour, these characters become witnesses to the contemporary world, treating social, political and environmental subjects with a light touch.
First seen in the urban spaces of Réunion, the Gouzous have gradually spread around the world, appearing on walls in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas.
Alongside his work in the street, Jace pursues a studio practice through painting, sculpture and print editions. His immediately recognisable world rests on a balance of humour, poetry and a critical eye on society.
