Allison Zuckerman (born 1990 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania) is an American contemporary artist based in New York. Trained at the University of Pennsylvania and then at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, she has developed a practice combining painting, collage and digital manipulation.
Her work is immediately recognisable by its teeming compositions, in which she assembles references drawn from art history, popular culture and digital imagery. Through these painted collages, she revisits the female figures of the Western artistic canon, turning traditionally passive muses into powerful, self-possessed presences.
Often described as a “DJ of art history”, Zuckerman fuses different periods, styles and influences to create vibrant, colourful works dense with references. Her world questions ideas of identity, representation, and the way women have been looked at throughout art history.
Her work has been exhibited in many international institutions and galleries, notably in New York, Miami, Akron and Herzliya, and she has also collaborated with brands and figures from the worlds of fashion and music such as Louis Vuitton, Moschino, Tod’s and Charli XCX.
